First Day Filming

When I got on the road at five in the morning, it looked really eerie and foggy out, but I thought that was normal and I just never see that because I'm never up this early. This should've been the first sign to me that maybe the sunrise wouldn't be visible.

I picked up Maddie and Elena with no difficulty; they both had on their costumes and looked exactly how I described I wanted them to look. I bought us Dunkin Donuts to eat after filming and made our way to the beach since I knew both of them get cranky when hungry (including myself).

We set up at the beach- and have to move our setup for the people who flatten the sand so we're not in their way- and wait for sunrise.

We setup at around 6:30 since sunrise the past week had been anywhere from 6:45am to 7:05am. When it hit around 6:55am and there was no sunrise still, I started to worry. It hit 7:10am with no sun visible and we decided just to film then because there was probably just no visible sunrise.

In this photo you can see it's 6:45am and I'm waiting by the setup camera for sunrise.
In this photo you can see it's 7:12am and I decided just to start filming.

What I failed to account for was that clouds could cover the sunrise so no orange or yellow hues would get through the clouds, therefore out golden hour was ruined. We had no other day all of us were free to reshoot any of it, so we just had to power through with what we had.

The rest of the filming went smoothly, Maddie is an amazing actress and I gave Elena minimal acting screentime since I knew she was the weaker actress of the two.

I was upset that golden hour couldn't be shot, but the music selection and the shot selection for the dream sequence still makes it feel dreamlike.

Since I was using my phone as my camera, I had minimal zoom, so in order to film the specifc shot of a seagull, I had to physically get close enough to one to film it.

I was just chasing them at first (which wasn't working), but Maddie started feeding the seagulls part of her donut, which attracted a crowd and made it easier to get the shot.
