Finding the Genre

I knew for certain I was going to make a LGBTQ+ romance-comedy since this is a genre I enjoy reading about and watching. I'm the most familiar with this genre and know that even if most rom-coms are variations of meet cutes, it is the writer and director's vision that makes the results different from the others.

To find what I want my exact plotline to be, I went onto ChatGPT, an AI that you can plug in a prompt and get ideas back from. I started with the basic genre I wanted to do and ideas within that genre restraint. I decided I wanted to stick with the meet cute genre solely because the contraints of this project have a small time included and meet cutes typically have the love interest introduced early on.

I wasn't sure which type of meet cute to pick. A chance encounter happens early on in a film, so I looked at possible plots for this subgenre, but nothing resonated with me. I think chance encounters are the most common type of meet cute and are even more prevalent in LGBTQ+ film. I want to make a film that has proper and real lesbian representation in my film and I feel chance encounters can easily come off artificial, especially since non-heterosexual relationships are difficult to spark off of chance encounters.

I think the main reason I didn't resonate with the other plots was because I had never personally experienced them, so it felt artificial for me to imagine a scenerio for it to play out in. I have experienced a meet cute through a mutual friend multiple times before, so I delved into good mutual friend meet cutes and could picture these scenerios playing out.

With the help of this online AI, I have decided to create a lesbian romance comedy meet cute through a mutual friend/sibling for the basis of my film.
